Below is the synopsis of a story that was intended to be the conceptual theme of our new album, Arts & Crafts. The story was created independently from the composition and naming of any of the works included, and therefore the song titles have little to no relationship to the storyline. Furthermore, we failed miserably to design any worthwhile art that matched the theme. When the image that was eventually used for the album cover came into existence, we used it simply because it was the only thing we had that looked any good. So the story and the album don't really work together all too well. However, please read it. It's a fun time.

Arts & Crafts (the story)

The hot air is dense with bugs and misery. Black sludge bubbles up and around the gnarled roots that line the banks of the river. A thick fog coats the landscape. In the distance smoke billows from the crooked chimney of a rotting, dilapidated wooden shack. Inside, two small children sit on either side of a fat, withered old woman. Her dress is fashioned from burlap haphazardly sewn together, coated in thick layers of soot and dirt. A large wart pertrudes off the side of her nose, and her black eyes are shadowed by her thick unruly unibrow. The smell is atrocious. They sit around a small wooden table, as light from a single large candle flickers across their faces, casting perverted shadows onto the walls.

Upon the table lays a curious amalgamation of garish paper, tacky glitter, feathers, and small bones. It brings color to the otherwise filthy room. One child extends his bloody fingers, reaching for a pair of pink plastic scissors, his eyes wide with terror. They dare not say a word. The old lady smiles menacingly. It is almost complete.
